A big, warm, heartfelt thank you for attending our screening of Embrace. I hope you enjoyed an felt inspired by this body-positive movie as much as I did!
I hope this movie helped further educate you about the widespread epidemic of body loathing and body shaming in our culture, and why so many of us feel so negatively about our bodies. The good news is we can take action!
On way to take action is to practice self-compassion, which has been proven in several research studies to reduce body image dissatisfaction. These studies have found significant reductions in body-image dissatisfaction, body shame and contingent self-worth based on appearance, and more importantly, increased body appreciation after practicing self-compassion for just three weeks.
If you are curious about learning more about self-compassion for adults or teens, online mindful eating training or my upcoming weekend retreat in Calistoga called Savoring Presence: Mindfulness Skills for Attuned Eating, please check out my website. Also, you can sign up here to receive useful and inspirational tips for cultivating a healthy relationship with food, your body and yourself, including tools to reduce body shame. Why spend one more day hating your body?
I hope that watching Embrace provided you with new inspiration to love your body! As I mentioned in my opening remarks, I truly believe we can be the change we want to see in our community by beginning to be kinder and more loving to ourselves.
What can you do to love your body today? Thank you for coming again!
